Dating Myself

I got up at 5:30am to get to the gym by 6am this morning. Only hit snooze once, but then spent15 minutes searching for my headphones. I had put them up in a place "I'd definitely remember" and of course, I didn't remember. Found them, but that meant I was a little late to the gym. No worries, I thought, I'll just do some weights and then only run/walk 1 mile. I really want to get my mile time to 11 minutes, which is a pretty lofty goal, I won't lie. So, no matter what, I was determined to get at least 1 mile in. Well first I pinch myself in one of the weight machines then I stepped weird in my mile and cramped up my foot.

Went home to get ready - burnt myself on the curling iron and broke one of my shoes.

AND YET.. I'm in a down right jolly mood this morning. It's all because I've been working on ME lately.

I mentioned in my May Goals that I wanted to have a Me Date. Well, I actually wrote those goals on May 1st and just wasn't able to post them until Monday. So anyway, on Saturday night, I had a Me Date. I had planned it Saturday morning and ended up turning down 2 sets of plans so that I could make this happen.

I went and got take-out (Olive Garden salad for liiiiiife), rented a movie from Redbox (The Spectacular Now), and opened a bottle of wine (moscato, as it is always stocked in my apartment). I sat my phone down far away from me, grabbed a blanket, but on a face mask (after i was done eating) and watched the movie with no distractions. Then I went to bed early.
It was perfect.

I think the biggest thing that made it different from any other night was that I didn't open my laptop and I kept my phone away from me. I watched the movie and just watched it. I wasn't distracted by anything or multitasking, I was just laying on my couch watching the movie.

All this is to say that I'm working on me. I am and I'm trying and I'm not perfect. I've found that it's actually hardest to change myself and go with my new attitude and look on life around my family. Maybe it's just because they've known me for forever and I've always been this one way, but it's hard. That's where I'm struggling the most and it's really hard to try to be the way I want to be when I feel like I'm being pulled into a place I don't want to be. I'm not sure if that makes sense, but there you go.

I recommend a Me Date to everyone. It's going to be a once a month thing for me from now on.
Happy Wednesday!

Tough It Out Tuesday - The Don't Make It Complicated Edition

Hello! Tough It Out Tuesday time. You know the drill by now, I'm hoping! I have a couple of things I want to talk about and I've saved all of them for today. Buckle up.

The Best Of Intentions

I have something that's really been on my mind the last week and I've wrestled with whether or not I should even write about it. I'm going to, but I just wanted you to be aware that I've wrestled with this decision. Part of that anxiety mess I discussed yesterday, I'm sure.

I do and always have read a lot of weight loss and fitness blogs. I love them and I learn so much from them. Lots of what to-do and what not to-dos. I think they're great and I have zero intention of quitting them. Having said that, I think it's easy for people to compare themselves to all of those bloggers. It's incredibly easy to play that game and it's a dangerous game to play with a slippery, slippery slop.

I have a tendency to make things a lot more complicated than they need to be. It's a really bad habit that I have and I've spent a lot of time this year working on that. It's a work in progress. I think because I read so many weight loss and fitness blogs and because I'm so addicted to Pinterest, I was trying to combine everything I had learned. I was trying to mimic every. single. blog. that I read so I could get those same results.

I was doing too much and I was burning myself out.

I mean, it's that simple - It was too much. I was getting discouraged and I was exhausting myself trying to be everyone except for me. It wasn't working. SO, I've spent the last 2 weeks figuring out how to simplify this whole fitness and healthy eating thing. I think it's working.

I spent that last 2 weeks finding things I liked and learning how to enjoy working out.
Here's one thing I did - I HIGHLY recommend checking out Brooke's blog for workouts. She posts them constantly and I just printed a few out and chose at random the one I was going to do that day.
These are my 3 favorites -

one // two // three

I did those 3 workouts several times. I love the March Madness circuit, but I also kind of hate it, if that makes sense. It hurts me. The 3rd workout is becoming my favorite morning workout. I'm a big fan and Brooke is pretty legit.

Now I'm looking for a good arm workout. I have wimpy arms. Like "I can't open the pickle jar" arms. Time to address that issue. And also tank top season is about here and so yea, it's time. If you have any, send them my way. *cough* Brooke *cough*

I'd love to see you all link up with Allie and I below and just remember - THE most important thing is that you're happy and you're working on reaching your own goals. To hell with everyone else.

May Goals

I think I'm starting to go through a mini quarter life crisis. I've been very fortunate and I've never had any problems with anxiety at all... Until now. It started with this ant problem I've been dealing with in apartment. It was going on for 3 weeks and then I finally had to call in reinforcements, aka my dad and my grandpa and I have high hopes that the ant problem of 2014 is solved! However, it had been going on so long and I was starting to get some really bad anxiety about it. Then it felt like once I let that little bit of anxiety in, it just totally took over. I've never dealt with this feeling before, but I have to say, I'm not a big fan.

I'm sorry if this is already getting a bit ramble-y, but I'm telling you guys - I'm having a quarter life crisis! I'm not even going to go into it because it's totally just me being ridiculous and wanting change and wanting it now. Immediately.

HOWEVER, my crisis has also involved a lot of "I'm never going to have a May where I'm 24 years old ever again." and "This is going to be my only summer as a 24 year old" and "Today is going to be my last Cinco de Mayo as a 24 year old". Lots of that. It's been a lot of "I need to enjoy this, because I'm never going to get it back" kind of thing. I agreed to take a spur of the moment trip to St. Louis for a girls weekend 2 weekends ago because WHY NOT?! Because I'm 24 and single with no kids and I didn't have a good reason not to go. Oh, I could have come up with lots of reasons, but I definitely didn't have a good reason.

Shut me up.

I'm done freaking out now, but that's what going on in my life. I bet you're sorry you asked. Even though most of you didn't.. Moving on.
You might have noticed, but probably not, but I didn't make a monthly goal list for April. Here's the situation, my April goal list was "survive tax season". Done, complete. Let's also not rehash March's goals, because who really even cares now? Not a soul. Let's jump to May! Yay May!

Be spontaneous
Pay it forward
Organize my Mary Kay inventory.
Spray paint the things in the box in my closet labeled "spray paint these"
Have a Me Date
Write a blog post 5 days a week all month long
Run an 11 minute mile.
Attend 1 exercise class a week just for fun
100 ounces of water a day
Begin my break up with my snooze button (this is going to be the hardest thing i've ever done in my life, but it's time..)
Read 2 books
Celebrate my momma
Have an epic Indy 500 celebration

That's all I've got folks. I'm just going to try to get my quarter life crisis under control before I do something stupid. Which could actually happen. Tattoos? Piercings? Never can tell..

Honey Roasted

Honestly? I struggled writing this post. I stared at a blank page for a really long time. I could probably sit and roast myself all day long, but honey roast? Listing my strengths and only the parts of me I like all over the interwebs? And to do it without feeling like you're bragging? Tough stuff.

That's when I realized how awesome this link-up is. I had to actually sit down and type up nice things about myself and it was refreshing and a really good way to start off May. So here you go, my Honey Roast.

HTML Map

>> I have good teeth and a nice smile. It's what I get the most compliments on and I do get them frequently.

>> I can be moderately funny. People outside of my family think I'm funnier than people in my family, because in my family I have to compete with my sister, who is really funny. But I have been told I'm hilarious a time or two.

>> I'm good at applying makeup. On myself I think I do a decent job, but I'm really pretty good at doing someone else's makeup.

>> I'm very accepting. We don't need to have the same religion or political views for us to be friends. Your sexual orientation doesn't change things in the slightest for me and the color of you skin is such a non-issue that it barely registers in my brain. You might be a cat person where I'm a dog person and we can still be friends.

>> I'm a good listener. It's something my friends have said to me many times, that they always come talk to me because I'm good at listening.

>> I am so good at making posters. You know in school when you had to make posters for a presentation or a project? I am like Queen of the Posters. That's not even a humble brag, that's straight up bragging. I won an award once.. (in 4th grade)

>> If you ask me for a favor, 99.5% of the time if I can do it, then I'm going to do it.

>> In a pinch, I could change my own tire. It's happened.

So, that was really hard. It makes me a little sad how hard that was. Especially since I'm having trouble thinking of anything else, which is a downer.
I'll update through the day if I think of anything.

In the meantime, link up your own Honey Roast below! I'd love to read yours!
