NBA draft 2013 {Fan Friday}

It's Friday, which means on planet Venus, it's Fan Friday!

Venus Trapped in Mars

Originally for Fan Friday I was just going to link up using my post yesterday about sports movies.

BUT

The 2013 NBA draft was last night and now I have new material.

 photo nbadraft1_zps88e40d5f.jpg

This is also the point of the blog post where I point out that I am, in fact, a girl. I like make-up, a lot. I watch Pretty Little Liars and Grey's Anatomy. There's enough pink in my apartment to make my brother want to puke. Just clarifying that for everyone.

Now, I love college basketball. I love it, I find it way, way more interesting than the NBA. I truly feel like the type of play is just better because those guys are playing with their heart and not with a paycheck in mind.

HOWEVER

Last night, 2 Hoosiers were drafted in the Top 5. Actually the Top 4.

 photo nbadraft2_zpsc6a2ea68.jpg
Victor Oladipo was the #2 draft pick, going to the Orlando Magic.

 photo nbadraft4_zps7ea433e4.jpg
Cody Zeller was the #4 draft pick, going to the Charlotte Bobcats.

I've never, ever even watched the NBA draft before. I watched exactly 5 NBA games this year. They were the last 5 NBA games of the year. And I only watched them because first I was a little forced and then a little curious and then I was just hoping the Heat would lose so I could annoy my brother.

I'm not an NBA fan.

And yet, I'm excited to see my Hoosiers play next year. Excited to watch them play outside of their Hoosier uniform. And I can't believe I'm saying that.

 photo nbadraft3_zps25281a7e.jpg

So what's the point of this Fan Friday post? There isn't one. Except to remind everyone that I love IU and to let ya'll know that I'm probably going to watch more than 5 NBA games next year.

Oh and I know you all probably already stalk Venus as much as I do, but just in case you don't, please go do that now. You can thank me later.

My Top 10 Sports Movies!

So, I like sports. I also really like movies about sports. I'm weird, I know, it's fine. Anyway, while we were in Florida, my stepdad and my brother were talking about their top 5 sports movies and I started thinking about mine. So I made a Top 10. It literally took me 30 seconds. I like sports movies. Sue me.

Loved, loved this movie as a kid!
We are Ducks, and Ducks fly together!

I mean try to tell me you don't like at least one of these movies!

Also, if you like baseball, but you've never seen Bull Durham, well first of all, what are you doing with your life? Second, I highly recommend it.

The 1st Time I Got Caught Lying..

I truly don't know what made me think about this story this morning, but I did and now I'm going to share it.

 photo caughtinlie_zpsbe64728a.jpg

Who caught me: Mom
What I lied about: Eating breakfast

It was in Elementary school, I have no idea what grade. I was young, so I'm thinking it was 3rd grade or younger. All morning my mom had been nagging me about one thing or another.

She does this really annoying thing where she's ridiculously chipper in the mornings. I can not tell you how often she would wake us up for school by singing. I also can not tell you how annoying my siblings and I found her morning attitude. She does it on purpose and she thinks she's hilarious. Now that I'm out of the house and I hear about her doing it to my little brother, I think it's hilarious too. Shoot, I'll probably do the same thing to my kids. Anyway, back in the day, it wasn't funny.

So she's nagging me. Then she starts nagging me about eating breakfast. I didn't want breakfast. So I didn't eat it.

As I'm walking out the door to catch the bus, Mom asks me again if I've eaten breakfast. I say yes, I ate a granola bar, in probably the snottiest tone I could muster.

 photo granolabars_zpsd99c9c70.jpg

Cut to after school. Mom gets home from work, looks in the cabinet, then asks me again if I had eaten breakfast that morning.

Again, I say yes, I ate a granola bar. About that time mom holds up the box of granola bars.. unopened.

I'm Not Going To Apologize..

Have you ever noticed how often someone starts off a blog post with "Sorry I've been MIA the last few days/weeks/months.." or "Sorry I haven't written yet this week.." or "I know I've been a bad blogger and haven't posted lately.."

And that's exactly what I almost did today..
Sorry I haven't blogged this week.
Sorry I haven't been cranking out my 4-5 blog posts a week.
Sorry..

But uh.. turns out, I'm not that sorry.

 photo selfie6-22-13_zps6f7e8076.jpg

Ya see, I haven't blogged because I've been busy living.

 photo IMG_2830_zps5d31f293.jpg

Last week I tweeted this awesome, awesome, AWESOME post from Patricia at Kisses and Croissants - 10 Things That Are Most Important Than Your Blog. She wrote it in a humorous way, but it's all true.

I love blogging, but at the end of the day, blogging is for me. The minute it becomes an obligation is the minute I won't think it's fun anymore. I like pretending I'm good at writing and I like being able to look back at all of my Weekend Shenanigans posts and laugh and remember.

I LOVE that through blogging I've learned so much. Everyone has a different view on current events such as the Boston bombing. Everyone has different ways of living and different opinions. I love that. I'm one of those people that loves to hear how someone else lives, how someone else grew up. I guess I was raised to be curious and respectful. Shout out to my parents.

Maybe I should get back to the point and the point is that I haven't blogged a lot lately. But I'm not sorry about it and so I won't apologize for it. I'm out there in the real world making memories and having fun.

Questions Children Ask..

So I may or may not have mentioned that I worked at a daycare for a number of years. By that I mean a hundred million years it feels like. My sister works at that same daycare now and I visit frequently. I love kids, I love babies, I enjoy visiting!

 photo IMG_2479_zps0d99aefb.jpg

Well, kids say the darnedest things.

And they ask questions. Lots of questions. Sometimes, I just don't have an answer. So here's a quick little list of some of the questions I've been asked in the past by some of my daycare kids. If you have the answers to any of these questions, feel free to let me know and I'll pass them along.

One.
"How do all of those eggs fit in the turtle's belly?"
Seriously.. how DO all of those eggs fit inside of the turtle before they're laid?

Two.
"Why are you right handed and why am I left handed?"
I've never really thought about the why to this. Why am I right handed? Why is my sister left handed?

 photo daycare4_zpsa29970f9.jpg

Three.
"Why are you wrapping those presents?"
Um.. so someone else can unwrap them. Well now that seems sort of silly, doesn't it?

Four.
"What does love mean?"
*crickets*

Five.
"Why is this color called Blue? Why isn't it called Sky?"
Because the sky is blue? But why DO we call the color blue "blue"? Hmm? Anybody?

 photo daycare3_zps85fd8b9e.jpg

Six.
To a 30 year old woman: "Why are you acting like a kid?"
I actually wanted to know the answer to this one too.

Seven.
"Is time real or is it just on the clock?"
Well.. uh.. Sort of? Yes?

Eight.
"How did my sister get in my mom's tummy in the first place?"
Yea, mom, how did my sister get in your tummy? And why'd you let her out?

Nine.
"Who is God's mommy?"
Stumped.

 photo daycare2_zps208b962c.jpg

Ten.
"Why?"
Because I said so. Always.

Things Vacation Taught Me..

As I mentioned yesterday, I had a freaking fabulous vacation. Not just a fabulous one, a freaking fabulous one.

 photo vaca1_zps6d1be032.jpg

But I'm home now.

And now that I'm home, I've discovered that my extra long vacation may or may not have changed me a little. It sounds almost a little crazy, but all day yesterday and all morning today I've been thinking about this. Here are some things I think my vacation has taught me..

1.
Enjoy each and every moment. Because I was hyper-aware that we were only on vacation for a certain number of days, I made sure to savor every moment. Whether it was a big beach day or our trip to Universal or just those moments in the morning where we were all sitting in the living room together watching The Food Network. I wasn't in a hurry, I just enjoyed where we were at and what we were doing and that we were doing it together.

2.
I don't have to settle for a job I hate. I don't hate my job, but there's not a darn thing I love about it. When I got back to work today (i have 2 jobs and i'm only referring to one here if you're confused at all) I discovered that nothing had changed, except that things fell apart without me here. It is just so exhausting and my high I was riding from vacation immediately fell. But I realized it doesn't have to be this way. I don't have to spend every week stressing about something new. I was already pushing pretty hard to find a new job, but now more than ever I have the motivation to get it done.

3.
I've been making getting healthy too big of a deal. I did c25k multiple times on vacation without complaint. I would not say I ate ridiculously unhealthy in Florida. Food wasn't a priority, ever. I walked and walked and went outside and did activities. Everything felt like the natural thing to do. I wasn't forcing myself to schedule time to work out or plan my meals for the week. I just went on runs when I wanted and I just made healthy choices when I was hungry. Of course I ate a poptart one morning. And yea, I skipped my last run. But if I want to make this a lifestyle change, then it needs to fit into my lifestyle. I liked running, I liked eating tomatoes and cottage cheese when I was hungry. I like being healthy. So I need to take a step back and just let things fall into place instead of forcing it.

4.
The sooner I stop comparing myself to other people, the happier I'll be.

5.
I just really love my family. I haven't spent that much quality time with them in a really, really long time. Especially my older brother. And I just love them. I think they're awesome and fantastic and far, far from perfect. Thank goodness for that. I'm definitely going to be making a much better effort of spending time with them. Priorities.

I'm glad I was able to bring something home from vacation other than a dirty car and a Harry Potter wand. Which I did bring home..

I'm HOME!

Vacation is over.. and I'm slightly depressed about it. 10 days with 8 other people.. whoa. I woke up alone in my apartment this morning and felt so stinking lonely!

No one was in my bed with me. I didn't wake up to the smell of coffee or murmurs from the tv. I didn't eat breakfast with anyone else. There wasn't a fight for the bathroom. I didn't have to debate the pool or beach situation with anyone.

Lonely.

I miss them already.

But I had a fabulous time! I've had some pretty great vacations, but I have to say this one is definitely in the top 5.

Here are a couple of pictures to get you by while I try to catch up on 10 days worth of blog posts from my daily reads (there are a shit ton), sort through a hundred emails (i actually had 210 this morning), unpack (which might take me until next week), grocery shop (i have redd's apple ale, ranch dressing, and pickles in my fridge), vacuum my car (pretty sure i brought half of the beach home with me), do laundry (i have approximately 4 loads, this is not a joke), and just get back into the swing of things.

So bare with me, please! You guys are the greatest and I missed you and I appreciated getting your comments and emails while I was in FL. This whole blogging community thing rocks.

I feel the need to point out that we weren't drunk in this picture..

Also, IU Baseball plays tonight at 8pm eastern time on ESPN2 for the 2nd round of the College World Series. I'm not telling you that you should watch it.. buuuuttt..
